REVIVAL: FICKETT FLOW

Revival: Fickett Flow is a multi-layered residential showcase envisioned and directed by Amy Theresa, founder of Designtonik. Rooted in the restoration and reimagining of an important mid-century modern residence originally designed by Edward Fickett, the project extends far beyond a traditional design reveal.

It offers brand partners the opportunity to be part of the entire story, from concept development and renderings to construction, installation, styling, and final editorial exposure.

Rather than simple product placement, Revival: Fickett Flow is a dynamic collaboration where architecture, interiors, craftsmanship, and culture converge.

THE PROJECT: REVIVAL: FICKETT FLOW: A design-led showcase unfolding inside an iconic Edward Fickett residence in Sherman Oaks—where architecture, storytelling, and brand collaboration come together through restoration, styling, construction, and curated experiences.

THE ARCHITECT: Edward Fickett helped define California mid-century residential living through homes known for openness, light, and effortless indoor-outdoor flow. This project honors that legacy while introducing a fresh design narrative for today.

Edward Fickett designed over 60,000 post-war homes, earning the nickname "The Frank Lloyd Wright of the 1950s" for his contributions to the California Ranch and California Moderne styles.

One of California’s great modernist architects, Fickett attended Art Center College of Design from 1937 to 1940. He worked as a draftsman under the trailblazing architect Paul Williams.

Architect Edward H. Fickett was one of the most prolific designers of modern homes—or more or less modern homes—ever.

Fickett homes are generally open planned, with walls of glass, tall ceilings, interior walls that divide rooms without reaching the ceiling, sliding closet doors, skylights, and plenty of storage.

FICKETT FLOW: THE EVOLUTION

Revival: Fickett Flow unfolds in layers—beginning with the vision through interior renderings, followed by exterior concepts that reimagine the home’s architectural presence. From there, a curated photo journey reveals the transformation: the residence before restoration, moments captured during renovation, and the home as it stands today—still in progress, yet already becoming a renewed icon of California living.

THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR: Amy Theresa envisions Revival: Fickett Flow as more than a showcase home. This is a living story where architecture, culture, and design are reawakened for a new era. Through her eye for curation, partnerships, and emotional storytelling, the project transforms an iconic Edward Fickett residence into an immersive experience that honors California modernism while inspiring how we live today.

THE EXTERIOR VISION: The landscape and exterior renderings for Revival: Fickett Flow were developed in collaboration with Yardzen, bringing a fresh architectural landscape perspective to the property. Homeowner Dave Thomas previously partnered with Yardzen on his Palm Springs residence, making them a natural fit to help shape the outdoor experience here. Their concepts extend the home’s legacy of indoor-outdoor California living through thoughtful planting, flow, and modern curb appeal.

THE TRANSFORMATION: We chose to strip back layers of past alterations—including painted brick and compromised finishes—to reveal the home’s authentic character. By removing and rebuilding elements previous owners had altered or diminished, the project restores the structure closer to its original concept—honoring Edward Fickett’s architectural intent while thoughtfully reimagining it for modern living.

THE REBUILD: Following the demolition phase, the next chapter reveals the home taking shape again. These remodel images capture the precision of rebuilding—where structure, materials, and craftsmanship begin to restore the residence to its intended form while introducing a refined new vision for contemporary California living.

THE HOME IN PROGRESS: Though still unfinished, the residence is already beginning to reveal its future character. These furnished images offer an early glimpse of the atmosphere taking shape—where architecture, materials, and curated interiors are coming together to create a warm, elevated expression of California modern living.
